Sports cars are one of the five vehicle classes in Car and Driver Presents: Grand Tour Racing '98. They are featured eight times on the speedways of Moscow and Hong Kong, making them the second most common car class in the game.

1997 Manual Description[]

Sports cars are the fastest production vehicles from the top automotive manufacturers in the world. These cars feature gut-wrenching acceleration, precision handling, and blazing top speeds.

Overview[]

Sports cars are featured in the initial and final stages of both Moscow and Hong Kong, with Indy cars replacing them in middle levels. These vehicles exhibit an initial top speed of 150 mph in the opening levels, followed by a substantial speed boost to an average of 200 mph in the closing levels. The upgraded version of these cars is featured in their extra level appearance, Switzerland 7.

Unlike other classes within the game, the sports cars do not follow a paired pattern, apart from Rossi and Baptiste's vehicles in the Grand Tour Racing '98 version:

  • Ivanov's 1997 Lamborghini Diablo SV offers exceptional speed and substantial weight, ranking second in both categories. Its weight contributes to remarkable stability, albeit at the expense of intricate handling.
  • Xu's 1998 Lotus Espirit V8 is a middleweight sports car, featuring a slightly lower top speed and acceleration. It provides commendable handling and stability, enduring collisions with resilience.
  • Lumiere's McLaren F1 GTR 96 carries the distinction of being the heaviest sports car, equipped with a decent top speed but notably lackluster acceleration and handling. Despite its weight, the car demonstrates poor stability when struck from the rear.
  • Roberts's Bugatti EB110 is a middleweight car that offers commendable handling, but suffers from subpar stability. In the initial levels, it showcases high top speed and acceleration. However, in the later stages, its performance is notably reduced with the lowest top speed and the second lowest acceleration.
  • Baptiste and Rossi's Ferrari F355 vehicles share a lightweight model while diverging in several driving characteristics. Rossi's car excels in handling and offers slow acceleration, while Baptiste's is the opposite. Nonetheless, their impressive top speed remains intact even during cornering, with Baptiste demonstrating superior resilience. Rossi drives the Porsche 911 (Type 993) in the Total Drivin version.
  • Ahmed's Ferrari F40 Competizione emerges as the fastest sports car, boasting an explosive top speed of 225 mph and rapid acceleration. Nevertheless, the vehicle contends with issues of poor lightweight stability and handling, often losing speed while cornering.
  • Morgen's Dodge Viper RT/10 is a lightweight vehicle featuring respectable top speed and acceleration. Nevertheless, its extreme instability is well-known, often leading to unexpected and uncontrollable flips upon impact with walls. Its handling proves to be quite challenging, and it tends to experience significant speed loss while cornering, earning it a place among the less favorable cars in the game.
